PROSPECT | Iván Fresneda – European clubs in race to sign talented Real Valladolid defender

Iván Fresneda was born in 2004 and is still only 18 years old. One of the main strengths of the Real Valladolid right-back is his ability to go forward.

He has good positional intelligence, can beat the press to get out of pressure, and start moves from deep. His movement off the ball helps him to create space and get rid of his marker, and a good first touch enables him to play quick passes inside or out wide.

Real Valladolid have a right-back who improves what he has around him. He offers the La Liga outfit solutions when they use attacking overloads. Going forward, Fresneda is excellent and defensively, he is improving.

His positional intelligence allows him to win duels and anticipate certain actions.

Fresneda’s numbers in La Liga 2022-23:

– 5.14 recoveries per game
– 2.14 successful tackles per game
– 8.14 duels won per game

He also has an average pass completion rate of 80.93%.

The former Real Madrid academy player has represented Spain twice at U18 level and four times at U19 level.

Despite still being a teenager, he is a very intelligent footballer and has understandably attracted interest from Newcastle, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund.

The young right-back is expecting an offer in the next few days from Newcastle for a fee in the region of €10m and €15m, although his release clause is €30m.

He has also received interest from five other Premier League sides.

His manager at Valladolid, Pacheta, admitted earlier this week that his future lies elsewhere, although the club owned by Ronaldo Nazário would love to keep him.

It remains to be seen who will sign Fresneda, but whoever lands the right-back will have an excellent young player to work with and develop.
