Barcelona ask Frenkie de Jong to re-sign his initial contract

Barcelona have asked Frenkie de Jong to cancel his current contract and re-sign the one he accepted when he first joined the club back in 2019.

The Blaugrana have been looking for ways to either offload De Jong or ask him to reduce his salary in order to help bring financial stability to the club.

In October 2020, the Dutchman signed a new contract that would keep him at the club until June 2026 and maintained his buy-out clause at €400 million.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have asked De Jong to go back to the terms of the contract he signed in 2019 as they cannot afford to operate the club on his current deal.

Barça have even threatened to carry out legal action if things don’t get resolved, however, they would like to reach an agreement amicably.

It was communicated yesterday that Frenkie de Jong has clashed with his agents yesterday as the player wants to stay while his representatives are encouraging him to move elsewhere.
