Mathew Ryan says goodbye to Real Sociedad

As reported by Marca, Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has left San Sebastián (Donostia) this morning and will look for a club that will guarantee him more playing time.

Mathew Ryan arrived to Real Sociedad last summer from Brighton. However, the Australian international failed to break into the starting XI as head coach Imanol Alguacil considers Álex Remiro as the club’s first-choice keeper.

Real Sociedad will be in the market to find a replacement for Ryan as the club is not ready to trust home-grown Andoni Zubiaurre as the back-up to Remiro.

Since his return from his holidays a month ago, the 30-year-old has not been able to train with the team due to a knee injury.

Ryan only managed to make three appearances in La Liga last season. He is looking for a club that can provide him with more minutes as he wants to be in the best shape possible for Australia’s World Cup campaign in Qatar.
