Villarreal handed double fitness boost ahead of Atlético Madrid

Villarreal have on Sunday been afforded some altogether positive news on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that two members of the club’s defensive ranks look set to be available for selection on Monday night.

Villarreal are primed to mark their post-international break return to action in a little over 24 hours’ time, when they welcome Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid to La Cerámica.

Speaking in a press conference this afternoon, manager Marcelino, in turn, was asked for the latest injury news stemming from his squad.

And, in his response, the Yellow Submarine’s headmaster went on to confirm that he will have both Raúl Albiol and Alfonso Pedraza back at his disposal.

Veteran central defender Albiol was forced to sit out each of his side’s last five fixtures, owing to a calf injury.

Left-back Pedraza, meanwhile, has not taken to the pitch since all the way back in January, after an ankle problem proved itself to be more serious than first hoped.

Drawn on the situation on Sunday, though, Marcelino, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, went on to reveal that:

“It seems like they are fine now.”

Pressed further on Pedraza’s readiness to contribute, with Alberto Moreno set to sit out the 2nd of a two-game ban on Monday, Marcelino continued:

“Although it may be, perhaps, a little premature, he is in sufficient strength and mental state to give us a hand.”
