Unai Emery shows faith in young forward Nicolas Jackson

Villarreal have gone two games in a row without a win and the feeling is that the Yellow Submarine may be lacking a bit of cutting edge in front of goal.

AS report that Unai Emery’s side had more than thirty shots in those two games, but only scored one goal. The club and Emery have decided to bring in a young player from the youth academy, Nicolas Jackson, a player with enormous potential. The problem is that Jackson is still developing as a player.

His numbers are good, being one of the players who generates the most chances, but he has only scored one goal. The forward has nine shots in six games. He is the fourth player in the squad with the most shots, with an average of 1.5 shots, only surpassed by Gerard Moreno (2.8 shots), Pedraza (1.8 shots), and Lo Celso (1.6 shots). Along with Pedraza, Coquelin and Chukwueze, he is the only player to have provided an assist.

“He is a player who is in the process of growing. There are times when some players have to go elsewhere to grow, but we are betting on him because his contribution is very high,” Emery said after the draw against Sevilla.

“He must get experience in front of goal and this is a learning process. We need to establish young players and we want to bet on them. Two years ago Baena had the same problem as Jackson,” Emery added.
