Nico Williams was called up to the senior side of Spanish national team by Luis Enrique for the first time.
In an interview which appeared on Marca, the 20-year-old revealed that he was not made aware that he made it to the long-list:
“I’m very happy to be here, I found out when the list of players called up came out. I had no idea I was on the long-list, it was a happy moment for my whole family and I’m going to perform here. My parents and my whole family are proud of me and now we have to continue.”
Despite being excited about joining the senior squad, he also understands the importance of working hard and taking the opportunity seriously:
“My feet are on the ground, I want to work, I want the coach to notice me. I thank him for this opportunity and I’m going to give my best on the pitch.”
Spain will play Switzerland and Portugal in the Nations League during the international break.
