Tottenham in talks for Spanish defender Pedro Porro

Tottenham are in talks with Sporting CP to discuss a January move for Spanish right-back Pedro Porro, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sporting coach Ruben Amorim has been very open about the future of Porro in an interview he gave to Portuguese daily Record.

“We are not an attractive league like the others, we cannot pay the same salaries and that is a problem. Even compared to Portuguese clubs we have this difficulty, but they will only leave because of the clause. We are prepared. We know the attacking football that Porro and Edwards create, nobody is blind here, but the market is what it is”.

Sporting have made it clear that the 23-year-old will only leave for his release clause of €45m.

Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte has three players in Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence at right-back.

Spurs’ main argument for lowering the Lisbon side’s financial demands is the price paid for other right-backs in recent seasons, fees much lower than Sporting’s asking price of €45m.

The one big exception is Achraf Hakimi, who left Inter Milan for Paris Saint-Germain for almost €70m.

In recent years, the transfers of young and promising full-backs such as Sergiño Dest, Nahuel Molina, Diogo Dalot and Emerson Royal have not exceeded €30m.
