The new clause in Gavi’s Barcelona contract

It has been officially confirmed that Gavi has signed a contract extension with Barcelona, keeping him at the club until 2026. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also revealed that there is a €1 billion release clause in his contract.

Barcelona have been keen on finalising the deal for a while as they believe that the 18-year-old can be a key player in the Barça midfield for years to come.

Since progressing from the Barcelona B team, Gavi has featured 96 times in all competitions for the senior side, registering 12 assists and five goals. And with Sergio Busquets leaving the Catalan club, Barça are hoping that Gavi has learned from the holding midfielder as he tries to emulate the success that Busquets has had at Camp Nou.

The Spanish midfielder has also given his input as to who Barcelona can sign this summer to reinforce the midfield. Martin Zubimendi, who played a starring role for Real Sociedad as they secured a top-four finish during the 2022-23 La Liga season, has been heavily linked with a move this summer. Arsenal are also said to be interested.
