Joselu: From relegation to Real Madrid

It’s fair to say that Joselu has had the best week of his career. From playing for Spain in the Nations League final against Croatia, to signing and being officially presented as a Real Madrid player, it has been a week to remember for the Spaniard.

Joselu has made his return to Madrid 11 years after leaving the club’s reserve setup, and according to Relevo, Florentino Pérez was quick to mention how Los Blancos take care of their own. At the presentation, he said, “At this club, we value talent, quality and values. In our youth academy we take care of values. And Joselu is an example of that”.

Joselu will wear the number 14 shirt, but insisted that he does not care what number he wears and that he is honoured to be playing for Real. “Any number in the Real Madrid first team is important. I am very proud to be able to wear any number. Any player in the world would do anything to wear this shirt. The number is secondary,” he was quoted as saying.

The Spanish striker, who has just been relegated with Espanyol, spoke of how he was thankful to Carlo Ancelotti and also said that he had not yet spoken to his new manager. At 33 years of age, having just won the Nations League and confirming a move that most players could only dream of, Joselu is enjoying a high point in his career.
