The latest between İlkay Gündoğan and FC Barcelona

Barcelona have been interested in signing İlkay Gündoğan for quite some time, with the German midfielder’s contract expiring at Manchester City this summer. Barça are quickly getting down to business as they attempt to register the 32-year-old with La Liga officials.

Gündoğan has agreed to sign with Barcelona, according to Toni Juanmartí, and Relevo are reporting that he has already completed his medical. But if Barça cannot successfully register him within the next few days, the player will likely look to explore other options.

The German international had an outstanding season in his final term at Manchester City, netting nine goals in 44 matches in all competitions, before eventually lifting the Champions League trophy which capped off an iconic treble-winning campaign.

Xavi has admired Gündoğan for a while, and a recent interview with Pep Guardiola revealed that the Barça manager has been in contact with the player over the phone. “Xavi has called him [Gündoğan] a lot. If, in the end, he picks Barça, I will tell him he will enjoy himself,” Guardiola said.
