Santi Cazorla’s possible Arsenal return

Spanish clubs Levante and Real Oviedo reportedly have plans to sign veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla this summer, but Estadio Deportivo understand via FourFourTwo that the 38-year-old could instead return to Arsenal to become part of Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff.

Cazorla moved to Qatar in 2020 after leaving Villarreal for free, spending three full seasons in the Middle East. The former Spain international scored 23 goals and teed up his team-mates to score 25 times in 55 league games. The midfielder is now in search of a new challenge after his contract with Al Sadd expired.

Levante and Oviedo are both hoping to secure his signature, however, Premier League outfit Arsenal and their ambitious head coach Mikel Arteta could scupper the plans of the Segunda clubs.

Arteta would like to reinforce his backroom staff with the addition of Cazorla ahead of the new season. The Spanish creator played 180 times for the Gunners during his five seasons at the Emirates.
