A member of the summer recruitment drive at La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid turned down offers from some of the continent’s other leading clubs to take his talents to Spain’s capital.
The player in question? Yan Diomandé.
Youngster Diomandé was of course involved in one of the most high-profile transfers of the 2026 summer to date. After a breakout season in Germany on the books of RB Leipzig, the winger, still just 19, was earmarked as a leading target at the aforementioned Real Madrid.
Following several weeks of back-and-forth negotiations regarding an appropriate fee, Florentino Pérez and co. ultimately agreed to meet the considerable demands set out by their counterparts at the Red Bull Arena.
Diomandé, in turn, went on to put pen to paper on a long-term contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.
As alluded to above, though, Real Madrid were far from the only big-name European club to have expressed an interest in landing the Ivorian with a view to the season ahead. In fact, Diomandé had his pick of some of the leading landing spots on the continent.
Speaking during an interview with El Chiringuito TV on Saturday, Nathan Campbell, the attacker’s agent, admitted:
”He had offers from Liverpool and PSG, but he chose Real Madrid. He had no doubts. It was his dream.”
