Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois expected to make swift return to action

Thibaut Courtois underwent an ultrasound scan on Monday morning, which revealed that his injury is less serious than expected, report Marca.

Courtois has not been ruled out of the Club World Cup, although everything will depend on his progress in the coming days.

The Belgian goalkeeper will not travel to Rabat with Real Madrid this afternoon, but he could join Carlo Ancelotti’s squad from Thursday or Friday if his situation improves and Madrid advance to the final of the competition.

Courtois felt discomfort during the warm-up that Real Madrid’s first team players were carrying out on the Son Moix pitch in Mallorca on Sunday.

He immediately informed Luis Llopis, the club’s goalkeeping coach, and the medical team, and together they decided that he would not feature in the league fixture due to an abductor problem.

Madrid lost 1-0 to Javier Aguirre’s side, who moved closer to the European places in La Liga with the victory.
