Those in a position of power at La Liga giants Real Madrid will no doubt have had their heads turned by a round of comments laid out by Arsenal star David Raya this week.
This comes after the Spanish international revealed his desire to one day return to ply his club trade in his home country.
Raya has for his part spent recent seasons making a name for himself as one of the very best in his position in all of world football. A world-class shot-stopper and also adept with his feet, the 31-year-old is considered by many to be the standout goalkeeper in the game at present.
With such talent comes inevitable transfer speculation, with Raya having been linked with potential moves to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid alike in the past.
Speaking during an interview with Spanish outlet Marca (as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano) this week, the former Brentford man was in turn drawn on his long-term plans. And Raya’s response proved an altogether noteworthy one:
“I would love to play in La Liga one day. Right now, I’m very happy at Arsenal, but it’s true that I’d love to play in La Liga one day. It’s a very competitive league.
“I’m Spanish, and I’d love to play in Spain; that’s obvious.”
With Barcelona set for the long-term with Joan García as their No. 1, and Thibaut Courtois set to turn 35 next year, could Real Madrid take advantage of Raya’s La Liga wish?
