Real Madrid midfielder Nico Paz: “This is a dream”

Nico Paz came off the bench to score his first goal for Real Madrid in their 4-2 Champions League win against Napoli on Wednesday night.

The teenager scored Madrid’s third goal of the night before Joselu added a fourth, but it was Paz’s goal that decided the outcome of the match.

The victory saw Los Blancos seal top spot in Group C and advance to the knockout stage, but it was the Argentinian who grabbed all the headlines.

The 19-year-old, who made his debut in the group-stage match against SC Braga a few weeks ago, is considered to be one of the top talents coming out of the Madrid academy.

The academy player replaced Brahim Díaz before finding the back of the net with a powerful shot from outside the area. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Paz reflected on his memorable first goal for the club.

He said: “This is a dream! I didn’t know what I was doing, I just hit it and it went in, I’m losing my mind.

“The Real Madrid academy is one of the best in the world, if not the best. I’m so, so proud.

“The entire team and staff has congratulated me. We are an incredible group.”

Furthermore, manager Carlo Ancelotti praised Paz for his contribution and believes he has the qualities to become an important member of the squad in the future.

The Italian head coach added: “Nico Paz has helped the team. It was a special night for him.

“Trust me, he’s a player for the future of Real Madrid. He has all the qualities needed to play here for many years.”
