Barcelona to pay €5m more to Las Palmas for Pedri

As indicated by SPORT, Barcelona now need to pay an additional €5m to Las Palmas after Pedri played the full 90 minutes against Porto in Tuesday’s 2-1 Champions League win, which activated an appearance bonus.

This landmark appearance would have been reached last season had he not sustained an injury against Manchester United in the Europa League last season.

Pedri was a starter against Porto and played the full 90 minutes, meaning Barca need to pay a new bonus to Las Palmas, as the midfielder played at least 45 minutes in 100 games for the club. The activation of this bonus raised the total transfer fee to €22m.

The Spaniard broke into the first team under Ronald Koeman after impressing in training. Due to the delicate financial situation at the time, the Dutchman promoted the midfielder to the first team.

Since then, Pedri has cemented his position in the starting lineup and has established himself as one of the world’s best players in the position. Under Xavi, the 21-year-old has been playing a crucial role regularly at the heart of midfield alongside his Spanish teammate Gavi, who recently picked up a long-term injury.
