Real Madrid legend tips Andriy Lunin as club’s ‘goalkeeper of the future’

Former Real Madrid star Guti has today moved to reveal his admiration for Blancos goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

As much, of course, comes amid the revelation that the Ukrainian is primed to continue in his role as first-choice between the posts over the most crucial stretch of Real’s campaign.

Having been inching towards what was viewed as an imminent return to the pitch, Thibaut Courtois, on Tuesday, suffered a serious setback in his recovery efforts.

Diagnosed with a ruptured internal meniscus in his right knee, the Belgian looks set to spend the remainder of the term on the sidelines.

With Kepa Arrizabalaga having long fallen out of favour under the watch of Carlo Ancelotti, this, in turn, means that the aforementioned Lunin is in line for the biggest test of his career to date on the back of the international break.

The 25-year-old, for his part, has thoroughly impressed in 23 appearances across all competitions thus far this season, with his exploits in the Champions League, in particular, having been nothing short of spectacular.

And one individual who appears confident that Lunin will have no problem in maintaining such form over the weeks and months ahead is the aforementioned Guti.

Speaking during an appearance on El Chiringuito TV late on Tuesday night, ex-Blancos midfielder Guti went as far as to reveal his opinion that Lunin will ultimately go on to prove himself the ‘future’ between the posts at the Bernabéu:

“I see Lunin as the goalkeeper of the future for Real Madrid.”
