La Liga giants Real Madrid have this evening been forced to sweat over the wellbeing of a key member of the club’s midfield ranks.
The player in question? Federico Valverde.
Real, of course, are fresh off their latest three-point haul, in the club’s return to action on the back of the international break.
Owing to a brace on the part of Rodrygo, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops cruised to the right side of a 2-0 scoreline, in a meeting with Athletic Club at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Los Blancos, as a result, have restored their hefty eight-point advantage atop the Spanish top-flight table.
As alluded to above, though, on an otherwise positive evening for the capital giants, one source of concern was also forthcoming, on the personnel front.
Late in proceedings on Sunday, Federico Valverde went to ground in evident discomfort.
After being seen to by the Real Madrid medical team, it was quickly made clear that the Uruguayan’s work for the night was done, hauled off to be replaced by Lucas Vázquez.
It now remains to be seen whether Valverde is facing up to any kind of spell on the sidelines, ahead of Los Merengues’ upcoming Champions League double header with Manchester City.
