Barcelona boss Xavi’s Mika Faye debut plan confirmed

An insight into the plans of Barcelona head coach Xavi to afford up-and-coming defender Mikayil Faye his first-ever appearance for the club’s senior team has today been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards Faye’s excellence at youth level as being set to be rewarded in the very near future.

The 19-year-old, for his part, was afforded a place on the bench on Saturday night, for Barca’s eventual 1-0 downing of Las Palmas.

This marked the 2nd occasion on which Faye has been afforded a call-up to the Blaugrana’s first-team setup on matchday this month.

And though he is yet to actually take to the pitch, those of a Barcelona persuasion desperate to catch a first glimpse of the stopper in their side’s colours should not need to wait too long.

As per the aforementioned Sport:

‘The idea of Xavi and the club is that Faye makes his debut with the first team officially this season.’

As much will come as a ‘gesture’, to reiterate to the Senegalese international the club’s belief in his abilities.

It is also added that, though Faye could well be farmed out this summer, Barcelona envision the youngster having a long-term future at the club.
