Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Friday spoken publicly for the first time on the dismissal of Barcelona counterpart Xavi.
Following weeks of speculation, Xavi’s departure from the bench in Catalunya’s capital was of course made official last week.
Just a month on from his continuation for the 2024/25 campaign being confirmed, the former Blaugrana midfielder was sent on his way, with Hansi Flick introduced in his place.
Many from across the football world have since made clear their unease with how Xavi was treated by Joan Laporta and co, amid long-standing criticism of the Camp Nou brass.
And, as alluded to above, on Friday, Xavi’s leading rival across his time on the touchline in Barcelona provided his take on the situation.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League final showdown with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Carlo Ancelotti was drawn on the latest developments behind the scenes at Barca.
And the Italian went on to reveal his take that, in the long run, Xavi may well come to find that the move was for the best:
“Xavi? This is the first time he has been sacked and with time I think he will understand it is part of the job. When there is not a good relationship between the club and the coach, separation is the best thing. It happened to me several times.”
