Real Madrid identify chief Barcelona target as Toni Kroos successor

The powers that be at Real Madrid have identified a player long linked with a move to arch rivals Barcelona as a potential summer signing.

That’s according to German outlet BILD, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Joshua Kimmich as the player in question.

The name of midfielder Kimmich has of course taken its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines for several months now.

As much comes with the Bayern Munich star having been widely tipped as the first-choice target on the part of the Barcelona brass, to reinforce the base of the club’s midfield.

To date, Deco and co, however, have found an agreement altogether tough to come by, owing in large part to the ongoing financial woes in Catalunya’s capital.

In turn, it will no doubt represent a major source of concern for the Blaugrana to hear of Spanish football’s other leading club expressing a sudden interest in Kimmich, too.

As per the aforementioned MD, the 29-year-old has been earmarked as a potential successor to fellow countryman Toni Kroos at Real Madrid.

Kroos, of course, is set to bring a close to his iconic stint in Spain’s capital next month, upon the expiration of his contract.

And Kimmich, it would appear, is amongst the leading candidates to replace the German in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
