Osasuna chief critical of Chimy Ávila over Real Betis departure: “I did not like it”

Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez has today spoken out on his disappointment with the behaviour of Chimy Ávila, on his way to securing a move to La Liga rivals Real Betis.

Frontman Chimy’s long-touted Betis switch was of course at long last forthcoming on Thursday.

With just hours to run before the winter transfer deadline, the Verdiblancos announced that they had reached an agreement with their counterparts at Osasuna, over a deal worth a rumoured €4 million.

The Argentine, in turn, went on to put pen to paper on a contract at the Estadio Benito Villamarín through the summer of 2027.

Whilst Betis are no doubt thrilled with their new attacking addition, though, Osasuna appear to have been left with an altogether bitter taste in their mouths.

Speaking to the media on Friday, aforementioned Rojillos chief Braulio Vázquez was asked for his take on the events which ultimately led to Chimy’s sale.

This comes with the powers that be at El Sadar understood to have been extremely keen to keep hold of the 29-year-old.

And Braulio, as cited by Sport, went on to confirm that he was indeed left disappointed by Chimy’s behaviour, on his way to engineering a mid-season transfer:

“We are aware that if he had stayed, in July he would be worth less money. The club has moved well in this market, we are satisfied, although personally I did not like it what Chimy did. It seemed regrettable to me.”

Braulio went on to highlight Osasuna’s excellent past treatment of their now-former attacker as further justification for his unrest, adding:

“I told him privately, although I will also make it public. When someone is injured, we renew him, if he does well we raise his salary.”

He concluded:

“At Betis he is going to do well and score goals. We have behaved well with him so we have reached an agreement that favors both parties.”
