Barcelona confirm Lionel Messi tribute plans

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has on Friday confirmed the club’s plans to pay tribute to Lionel Messi at some point in the future.

Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, of course, is widely considered to be the greatest player in Barcelona’s storied history.

Across a glittering stint with the Blaugrana spanning almost two decades, the Argentine racked up a staggering ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Reys, seven Spanish Super Cups, four Champions Leagues, three UEFA Super Cups and three FIFA Club World Cups.

Messi has since taken his talents to the USA with Inter Miami, after a two-year stint in Ligue 1 on the books of Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the nature of his controversial departure from Catalunya, though, the 36-year-old remains held as nothing short of an icon amongst all associated with Barcelona.

In turn, it should not come as a major surprise to hear that the powers that be at the Camp Nou have every intention of honouring Messi’s legacy down the line.

Speaking to the media during an action-packed press conference this evening, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was drawn on the possibility of the club showing their gratitude to the diminutive frontman.

And Laporta did not hesitate to confirm as much, in explaining that:

“We can make a tribute for Leo Messi whenever he desires.”
