Official: Real Madrid secure midfield starlet’s signing

Real Madrid have this week closed an agreement to add to the club’s midfield ranks for the present and future alike. This comes courtesy of the signing of Sergio Martínez from La Liga rivals Racing Santander.

The name of youngster Martínez emerged as a leading one in the media headlines surrounding Real Madrid over recent weeks.

After the 19-year-old announced himself to the football world courtesy of a stunning goal on his La Liga debut against Villarreal, he was quickly linked with a whole host of Spanish top-flight clubs.

It was those in a position of power at the Santiago Bernabéu, though, who positioned themselves at the front of the queue, laying out the club’s long-term development roadmap to Martínez and his entourage.

Negotiations between the parties, in turn, ramped up over recent days, with a view to clinching a definitive agreement before the fast-approaching transfer deadline. And on Monday, these talks have officially borne fruit.

As per a statement across Racing Santander’s website and social media platforms:

‘Racing Santander and Real Madrid CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of Sergio Martínez. The Madrid club has committed to paying, in a single instalment, the full amount stipulated in the buyout clause of the contract that bound Real Racing Club to the player. As a result, the player from Laredo leaves the Racing squad.’

Martínez, initially at least, is expected to link up with Real Madrid Castilla (reserves).
