Official | Monchi leaves Sevilla and is set to join Aston Villa

Sevilla have announced the departure of sporting director Monchi in a statement released on Friday evening.

The Andalusian club and Aston Villa have reached an agreement for the Spanish sporting director to join the Premier League, after days of negotiations.

Monchi thus puts an end to four seasons at Sevilla in what was his second spell at the club. After his first 17 years at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, he left to join Serie A outfit AS Roma before returning to the current Europa League champions.

In over 1,000 games as sporting director, Sevilla have consolidated their position on the European scene thanks to their success under Monchi over the past two decades.

The man from Cádiz will now link up with head coach Unai Emery for a second time, while Sevilla look to appoint a replacement as they prepare for the 2023-24 campaign.

In Monchi and Emery’s spell together in the Andalusian capital, they lifted three Europa League titles.
