Nacho will stay at Real Madrid for another year

Nacho Fernández’s contract at Real Madrid was going to run out this summer, making the Spaniard a free agent, but he has put pen to paper and signed with the Spanish giants for another year.

Some of Europe’s top clubs including this season’s Champions League finalists, Inter Milan, were keen to acquire the 33-year-old on a free deal. The versatile defender has been at Real for 13 seasons and has won three La Liga titles and five Champions League trophies in his time with Los Blancos.

The Spain international is an incredibly decorated player and spoke about his extension. “I’m going hand in hand with my club and my family. There are always, of course, offers from outside, but I’ve decided to stay for another year. I’m happy about it and I’m looking forward to staying.”

The Spaniard is primarily a centre-back but has proved an underrated asset for many managers, in any position across the defence. He can play left-back and right-back and has covered left-back on many occasions. Real fans will be happy that he is to remain at the club for another year.
