Yassine Bono, Morocco’s goalkeeper and hero in his team’s penalty shootout win over Spain in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup, highlighted the “colossal effort” of his team in their famous victory over La Roja.
“We have felt the love and support of all our fans, whether from Morocco or any other country in the world. And that gives us the strength to be able to play the football we have been playing.
“I have to thank all my team-mates who have helped me enormously. It has been a colossal effort. I applaud them for their work. And this gift is for all my team-mates and all our people,” he said in quotes transcribed by Mundo Deportivo.
“When this happens, you don’t realise what you’ve just achieved. We are very happy. We have to stay focused and keep in mind what’s ahead of us.”
On saving three penalties
“It’s a question of feeling. There’s not much I can say about it. You know what they’re like.”
