Lucas Vázquez: “I want to become an important player at full-back.”

Lucas Vázquez has said that he enjoys playing as a full-back now, in an interview with AS.

When posed the question whether he preferred to be a winger or a full-back, Lucas said that he had grown to enjoy his new role.

“I’m going to be honest. As a child, I always had it in my head to attack and play as a winger, to score goals. I wasn’t entirely happy when they put me as a full-back. I didn’t enjoy it. But now I’ve been playing there for a year and a half and every game I feel more comfortable. Now I’m really enjoying being a full-back. My goal is to do better every game and become an important player in that position.”

Vázquez also heaved praise on Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, suggesting why the squad has been able to gel so smoothly under the Italian.

“His secret is that he’s a good guy with a really good heart. That’s his biggest secret.”

Lucas also stated why senior statesmen Karim Benzema and Luka Modrić are exemplary players.

“They show that football has changed, that players are taking more care of themselves. They are examples for the whole world. Modrić is better now at 36 than when I arrived and he was 29. The same goes for Karim; he is a better player now than seven years ago. I’ve seen their evolution and able to enjoy their football. It has been wonderful.”
