Lionel Messi gave his vote to Gavi for the best young player of last season. The Andalusian took the prized Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or gala on Monday, and did so thanks to the votes of some players like the Argentine. Behind him, the Argentine voted for his team-mate Nuno Mendes and Jude Bellingham.
The award recognises the world’s best player under the age of 21 and the young midfielder picked up the coveted prize after an excellent campaign with Barcelona.
France Football has been awarding the Trophy since 2018 and the previous winners have been France forward Kylian Mbappé, and Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt. Gavi’s team-mate with Barcelona and Spain, Pedri, won the Kopa Trophy in 2021.
Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga shared the podium with Barca wonderkid Gavi.
