Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has this week provided his take on the race for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
Frontman Mbappé is of course considered one of the frontrunners to ultimately lift the annual ‘Golden Ball’, set to be handed out by France Football in late-October.
The 27-year-old broke the 40-goal mark in the colours of Real Madrid last season, before smashing the all-time goalscoring record at the World Cup over the summer, too.
The chief argument against Mbappé’s candidacy to be named world football’s best player is the fact that his goals have not culminated in team success, with Los Blancos and France having gone trophyless.
Adamant that he would still be a deserving winner, though, is none other than Mbappé himself… Speaking during an interview with French outlet L’Équipe this week, the prolific attacker was drawn on the 2026 Ballon d’Or race.
And, in quotes cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mbappé went on to assure:
“Who would I vote for the Ballon d’Or? I’d vote for me. It is an individual award. We look at what the player has done individually.
“When we look at the arguments… I look, and I say to myself that yeah… it wouldn’t be stolen.”
