The winner of the award for La Liga Manager of the Month for August has on Monday been announced. And it has not gone the way of either of the Spanish top-flight’s two most high-profile tacticians.
After an all-action opening to the new La Liga campaign, the shortlist for the very first Manager of the Month prize of the term was unveiled last week.
The three names put forward came in the form of Hansi Flick (Barcelona), José Mourinho (Real Madrid) and Quique Sánchez Flores (Deportivo Alavés).
The former pair managed perfect records of three wins from three in August, whilst the latter notched an impressive seven points from an available nine.
And on Monday, Sánchez Flores’ stellar efforts in Vitoria-Gasteiz have been aptly recognised.
With his side sitting pretty in 2nd in the Spanish top tier, Alavés’ headmaster has beaten out the stiff competition to be named Manager of the Month for August:
