Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has on Wednesday continued to climb the all-time goalscoring ranks in the Champions League. This comes owing to his exploits in Los Blancos’ latest outing.
José Mourinho’s troops are currently locked in action on the continent, in a League Phase meeting with Serie A high-flyers AS Roma.
The aforementioned Mbappé for his part featured from the off in the clash, from his customary berth as Real Madrid’s attacking spearhead.
And after hosts Roma opened the scoring courtesy of Marten de Roon, it was Mbappé who dragged the visitors back on level terms in the Italian capital.
After picking the ball up deep in Roma’s half, the Frenchman spun before seeing his deflected effort from range make its way beyond the helpless Pierluigi Gollini.
And as alluded to above, in the process, Mbappé made history.
With 72 goals to his name, the former Paris Saint-Germain standout has overtaken Real Madrid icon Raúl González in Champions League goals. Mbappé now sits 5th in the all-time standings, with another Blancos legend, namely Karim Benzema, in his sights in 4th.
