Kylian Mbappé agrees terms with Real Madrid

According to Guillem Balague, Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé has agreed terms with Real Madrid and is set to join this summer. The Frenchman has informed PSG that he intends to the leave club with his contract expiring this summer.

Mbappé is yet to put pen to paper, but it is likely that the deal will be announced later on in the season, when it is no longer possible for the clubs to face each other in this season’s Champions League. It was though that the 25-year-old wanted his future to be sorted before March, so midway through February he met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to inform him of his intention to leave the club for Madrid.

In terms of his contract, the France captain is set to sign a five year-deal earning €15m a season with an additional €150m signing-on bonus, which will be paid over the duration of his contract. Mbappé will also be keeping a percentage of his image rights in this lucrative contract proposal.

The electric forward would ideally want to inherit the number 10 shirt for Los Blancos, however this is dependent on Luka Modric leaving the club in the summer. It is expected that the France international will play down the middle for Carlo Ancelotti’s side with Vinicius Jr switching to his favoured role on the left-flank and Jude Bellingham dropping into a deeper role to accommodate the arrival of Madrid’s latest ‘galactico’.

The World Cup winner won the French title with Monaco before joining PSG in 2017 on loan before signing on a permeant basis for €180m. He is PSG’s record goalscorer with 244 goals in 291 games with these goals contributing to the club’s five Ligue 1 title wins.

Mbappé was set to leave PSG on a free transfer at the end of the 2021/22 season, but turned down a move to Real by agreeing to extend his stay in Paris. In his current deal, the player has a one-year extension so his departure is likely to involve either a transfer fee or a financial sacrifice from the player himself.
