Jules Koundé targeting El Clásico return

Barcelona defender Jules Koundé could recover in time from injury to face Real Madrid in the first El Clásico of the 2022-23 season, report AS.

Koundé suffered an injury in France’s Nations League match against Austria and initial tests carried out by Les Bleus’ medical staff predicted that he would be ruled out for up to one month.

The 23-year-old then travelled back to Barcelona, where further tests were carried out. According to the tests in Catalonia, he has a tear in the femoral biceps of his left leg, with the club’s medical team confident of having him available to play in El Clásico.

The France international was back doing light running work on Thursday as he looks to make a full recovery ahead of the match with rivals Madrid.

El Clásico is scheduled to take place on Sunday October 16 at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Kickoff gets underway at 4.15pm local time (CEST).
