Liverpool among clubs interested in Spain forward Nico Williams

Nico Williams’ performance for Spain in Braga on Tuesday did not alter the plans drawn up by Athletic Club, who have already thought about renewing their top youth player, according to AS.

The Bilbao club had already been alerted to the fact that his contract expires in June 2024 and his clause is €50 million. A few weeks ago AS reported that Liverpool had been following him closely. There is, however, no rush over a new deal at San Mamés and they have not sat down with the player’s agent yet.

Athletic want the younger of the two Williams brother to focus on his football, but they are working on a plan to offer him a contract renewal with an increase in his wages and a contract extension for the 20-year-old Spain international.

Williams looks to have booked his place on the plane to the World Cup in Qatar with just two senior caps against Switzerland and Portugal. Against Portugal, he set up Álvaro Morata to score the winning goal which sent Spain to the Nations League finals next June.
