Joan Laporta: “We want to talk to De Jong to know exactly what he wants”

As communicated by Marca, Barcelona club president Joan Laporta wants to sit down with Frenkie de Jong to figure out his future at the club.

The Dutch midfielder’s future has been up in the air for the last few weeks and he is currently part of the team’s tour in the United States.

In an interview with ESPN, Laporta elaborated on de Jong’s situation:

“He is our player, we like him a lot. We have received some offers for Frenkie but we are not accepting them for the moment, we want to talk to him and find out exactly what he wants.”

Manchester United have shown a strong interest for the 25-year-old player, with club representatives travelling to Barcelona to negotiate a deal. Earlier this month it was reported that Manchester United have agreed a fee in the region of €75 million for de Jong with the Blaugrana.

Barcelona are keen to offload the midfielder to reduce their wage bill. The Dutchman will earn €21 million this coming season and €28 million the one after.
