Jan Oblak: “We were in a good group to go through.”

Last night Atlético Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bayer Leverkusen.

In his post-match interview that appeared on Marca, Jan Oblak evaluated the team’s performance:

“It is a very cruel way to fall. In the second half we did everything to win. We didn’t have the luck we needed. I can’t say anything more other than I’m disappointed. It’s a very tough result.”

The Slovenian keeper was asked whether Los Colchoneros’ European campaign could be considered a failure:

“Yes, we were in a good group to go through.”

Oblak also sent a message to the fans:

“We can only thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the support you are giving us after this draw. They deserve much more. I’m very sorry.”

Atlético Madrid still have the opportunity to qualify for the Europa League:

“We will want to win the last game in the Champions League. The season is long and we have to improve.”
