Barcelona head coach is nothing short of desperate for a member of his defensive ranks to be registered in time for the club’s La Liga season opener this weekend.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Iñigo Martínez as the player in question.
Stopper Iñigo has for his part established himself as something of a favourite of new boss Flick across pre-season to date, with his experience and no nonsense nature highly appreciated.
The problem, however, is that as things stand the former Athletic Club man is not eligible to feature against Valencia this weekend.
He, like several of his teammates, has not been registered with La Liga owing to Barcelona’s delicate financial situation.
Hansi Flick, in turn, has made crystal clear to the board at the Camp Nou that Iñigo being at his disposal on Saturday is nothing short of ‘urgent’, with the pairing of Pau Cubarsí and Eric García yet to recover full fitness following their exploits at the Olympic Games.
In fact, Sport go as far as to claim that:
‘The FC Barcelona coach has asked the club to register the Basque centre-back as their first choice, even ahead of Dani Olmo.’
