Guti talks Real Madrid, Modrić and Pedri ahead of new season

In an interview with DAZN reported by Marca, José María Gutiérrez ‘Guti’, analysed Real Madrid’s transfer window, as well as the current situation at FC Barcelona.

Guti discussed Real Madrid’s new signings and departures and gave his thoughts on Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

“I still see it as good as last year. It’s true that they haven’t strengthened their squad much. Maybe they lack a striker, as they also lacked one last year. The absence of [Karim] Benzema is fundamental for Real Madrid and not having a ‘killer’ limits their ability to score goals,” he said.

On Barça’s past and current situation, the former Madrid playmaker commented on the importance of the signings that the club’s board is bringing in.

“We saw a decaffeinated Barça last year and I think this is going to give much more cache to La Liga. Everything that strengthens big teams, and teams that are important in Spain like Barcelona, I think that this league is going to be very good for it.”

Guti went on to analyse his own style of play. The former Real Madrid midfielder believes that the last pass is an element that is gradually disappearing in football and mentioned two players who remind him of his style of play.

“I think [Luka] Modrić and Pedri are the two players most similar to me,” he added.
