Girona boss Míchel speaks on future and drops Sávio hint after 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano

Girona head coach Míchel this evening spoke out over both his own future, and that of starlet Sávio, on the back of his side’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano.

The Catalans, of course, marked their return to action on Monday night.

Desperate for a return to winning ways after being leapfrogged by Barcelona into 2nd in the La Liga table, Girona welcomed the aforementioned Rayo to the Estadi Montilivi.

And, when all was said and done, march on to three points is precisely what the evening’s hosts managed.

As much came after Viktor Tsyhankov’s opener early in the 2nd-half was added to by an injury-time brace on the part of Sávio.

Girona, as a result, have climbed back to within six points of table-topping Real Madrid in Spain’s top-flight.

Speaking to the media post-match, headmaster Míchel, in turn, was unsurprisingly in fine form:

“We regained second position, and we are once again the top scorers in La Liga,” he began, as per Diario Sport. “This is data that we like and that makes us want to remain the same until the end of the season.”

From here, the Spanish tactician was also drawn on the subject of his future with the Blanquivermells, as well as that of brace-hitter Sávio.

The latter is of course primed to link up with Manchester City this summer, after the Premier League champions made use of their ‘City Group’ connections to strike a deal with parent club Troyes.

After confirming that he, for one, will certainly be staying put, though, Míchel hinted that Sávio could yet do likewise, on a fresh season-long loan:

“I’m sure I’ll be here next year, and I hope Savinho can also stay with us.”
