Giorgi Mamardashvili’s situation at Valencia

Giorgi Mamardashvili wants to leave Valencia after the La Liga club had a disastrous season in which they finished 16th.

The Georgian shot-stopper was one of the stand-out performers last season and has attracted the attention of a number of teams across Europe.

There is a problem, however, and that is the price that Valencia are asking for. The Spanish side want €25m for the 22-year-old, but Relevo are reporting that most teams are not keen on meeting that price.

Mamardashvili was on the list of clubs including Brentford, Tottenham and Brighton. Brighton were interested in him but they have finally opted for Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Brentford were also interested, but have decided to go for Mark Flekken, the Freiburg goalkeeper, a deal they closed for €13m.

The reason that Valencia feel they can demand this price is because of the Georgian goalkeeper’s age (22) and the fact that he has a contract at the club for another four years.

It remains to be seen where the highly-rated netminder ends up.
