Getafe CF president Ángel Torres confirms Mason Greenwood talks with Barcelona

Getafe CF president Ángel Torres has confirmed he has held talks about Mason Greenwood with Barcelona, but has denied any talks with Atletico Madrid, amid recent reports suggesting that the Englishman was on their shortlist.

Getafe have had a successful season and are sitting comfortably in mid-table. The form of Greenwood has contributed significantly to the club’s respectful league position.

The forward, on loan from Manchester United, has scored eight goals and notched six assists in 29 league matches this season. Consequently, the 22-year-old has attracted interest from the likes of Barca, Atletico Madrid and Getafe, who ideally want the player to continue at the club next season.

United are open to selling Greenwood in the upcoming summer transfer window and are demanding a fee of around €50m. The player himself is happy in Spain and wants to continue his career in La Liga.

Speaking with Radio Marca, Getafe president Torres confirmed that Joan Laporta and Deco from Barca are the only people he has spoken with about Greenwood.

He said: “The only one I have spoken to about Greenwood is Laporta and Deco, who asked me why he likes it. I think he (Greenwood) is going to stay.

“Manchester’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, so we will have to wait. If it depends on the parents and the club, I think he will continue here another year.

“No one from Atleti has asked me about Greenwood. I spoke with Miguel Ángel Gil Marín , but about other things. The only one who asked me in that sense about the player was Joan Laporta , but first you have to sell to sign, it is the problem of Spanish football.”

Greenwood’s deal at the Red Devils expires in the summer of 2025, however the club have an option to extend it for a further year. If the club decide against triggering this clause, the player would leave the club as a free agent at the end of next season.
