Manchester City are expected to sell Eric García to Barcelona in the summer, despite speculation of a January move happening, according to The Athletic.
The 19-year-old runs out of contract at the end of the season and has made it clear that he wants to rejoin the club where he played as a youth teamer before joining City in 2017.
Barcelona have also expressed their interest in the centre-back, but would not make any new bid until after their presidential elections on January 24. This suggests that there would be just a week for both clubs to agree a deal.
García has rejected City’s offers to extend his contract and if Barça can afford to wait until the summer they can then sign him on a free.
Pep Guardiola has admitted that the player wants to leave the club. “He [García] told us that he doesn’t want to extend his contract with Man City, so he has one more year,” Guardiola said in August. “I imagine he wants to play in another place.”
