England national team head coach Thomas Tuchel has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his decision to recall Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold to his squad.
The name of defender Alexander-Arnold has returned to the forefront of the headlines in his home country across the day to date.
Overlooked for this summer’s World Cup, the former Liverpool standout has been afforded a place in England’s squad for the upcoming round of Nations League fixtures.
Alexander-Arnold has found himself in and out of the starting XI in Spain’s capital over the early weeks of the new campaign, with José Mourinho having largely favoured Real Madrid summer signing Denzel Dumfries.
Speaking during an exchange with the media on Friday, the subject of his call to reintegrate TAA was therefore put to Thomas Tuchel himself.
And the German tactician went on to explain:
“Trent was never off the list or not selectable. I’m happy, we’re happy to have him back. He’s had a good start to the season, started some matches for Real Madrid and had good results.
“It’s his chance to claim the right side, which he feels is his.”
