A leading member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona was a notable absentee from the club’s latest training session on Friday.
The Blaugrana shot-stopper in question? Joan García.
Joan was for his part forced into a premature departure from Barcelona’s latest outing, on Wednesday night. En route to a 7-2 drubbing of Racing Santander, the Spanish international pulled up late in the first-half, before failing to reemerge on the other side of the interval.
The medical department in Catalunya’s capital subsequently confirmed that the club’s no.1 was dealing with ‘mild discomfort in his right knee’.
And as much looks set to keep Joan out of contention to play his part in Barca’s next fixture, this weekend. As confirmed by Blaugrana insider Sergi Capdevila, the 25-year-old played no part in group training at the Ciutat Esportiva on Friday morning.
Wojciech Szczęsny is therefore expected to step into a starter’s role in Seville on Saturday night.
