Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has already made a definitive call on the right-back pecking order in his Blancos squad. This comes amid the understanding that the Portuguese considers Denzel Dumfries his undisputed first-choice.
Securing reinforcements on the right of defence of course emerged as something of a priority in Spain’s capital this past summer, following the free agent departure of Dani Carvajal.
In the end, the Bernabéu brass opted to bring in the aforementioned Denzel Dumfries, in a cut-price deal from Italian champions Inter Milan.
This culminated in an immediate dilemma for Mourinho and his staff, left to decide between their summer addition, and former Liverpool standout Trent Alexander-Arnold.
To date, it is Dumfries who has been largely favoured, with five starts to his name already this season.
And if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then Alexander-Arnold could have a tough job on his hands in wrestling back the favour of his manager. As per a report from Marca:
‘The Dutch footballer has quietly established himself as Mourinho’s first choice at right-back. A choice that, for now, is virtually beyond question.’
