Barcelona summer signing Anthony Gordon has this week provided an insight into his initial reaction to word of the Blaugrana’s interest in his signature.
Attacker Gordon of course took his talents to Catalunya’s capital back in July, in a big-money transfer from Premier League outfit Newcastle United.
The Englishman’s arrival came as something of a surprise one, with the Camp Nou brass having had the option to land fellow countryman Marcus Rashford for a considerably lower fee.
Gordon, though, has since showcased precisely why Hansi Flick and co. were so keen on his services, having slotted seamlessly into Barcelona’s frontline.
Speaking during an interview with RAC1 early this week, the 25-year-old was in turn drawn on how exactly his move to La Liga came about.
And in quotes cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gordon went on to admit that he was initially more than sceptical regarding the seriousness of Barca’s interest:
“For a while, I didn’t believe Barcelona deal was real. I told my agent: yea, yea, ok…
“I didn’t show much interest because I didn’t think it was that serious. Then I had a phone call with Hansi Flick, and that’s when I knew it was real!”
