Details: Barcelona chief Deco holds meeting with agent of Frenkie de Jong

Barcelona sporting director Deco sat down for a meeting with the agent of midfield star Frenkie de Jong on Friday evening.

And an insight into some of the finer details of the exchange between the pair has since come to the fore online.

The name of Dutchman De Jong has of course taken its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines across the week to date.

This comes after the former Ajax standout finally lost his cool, amid the near-constant speculation surrounding his name.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League meeting with Napoli on Wednesday, De Jong was drawn on claims that he was recently left unimpressed by a proposal to extend his contract in Catalunya.

And, in an effort to make clear his frustration with the ‘lies’ pushed by the Spanish press, the 26-year-old responded:

“Lies. You write a lot, don’t you? In Mundo Deportivo, like other outlets, you write things that are lies! Why do you do that? Why do you make things up?”

And De Jong’s unrest, evidently, did not go unnoticed amongst the powers that be at Barcelona.

In fact, on Friday, Blaugrana director Deco sat down with the Dutch international’s agent, in an effort to reiterate the club’s support for his client.

As confirmed by multiple outlets, the discussion between the pair was held in a positive atmosphere, which saw both Deco, and Ali Dursun, reiterate their intention to continue their relationship through the summer and beyond.

Despite the non-stop speculation, Sport therefore assure that talks over a contract renewal for De Jong will soon be kicked back into gear, amid hope from all sides of an agreement ultimately being found.
