Dani Olmo: “Fede Valverde is among the best in the world right now.”

Spain international Dani Olmo has spoken in an exclusive interview with AS, where he discussed RB Leipzig’s fixture against Real Madrid this week.

Toni Kroos said Fede Valverde was among the three best in the world right now, did he go a bit too far?

“Maybe not. Right now he’s at a phenomenal level. I don’t know if he’s top 3 but he’s among the best right now. We are watching him. I love him.”

Isco, Casemiro, Marcelo and Bale have left and Rüdiger and Tchouaméni have arrived, do you see a squad that is stronger or weaker than last season?

“Madrid is Madrid. There are players coming in and out every season but they are always at the top of the table fighting for everything. The squads change but the team remains just as competitive.”

A few months ago you were linked with possible interest from Madrid, was there something concrete or were they rumours without much substance?

“Let’s just say that I don’t pay much attention to rumours.”

You were part of the Barça academy, would that influence a decision to move to Barça if that interest was real?

“I spent six years at La Masia. I grew up there as a youngster and I’m very fond of the club but, as I said, I don’t pay any attention to speculation.”

Would you be excited about the possibility of returning to Barça?

“I don’t think about it. I want to keep my head focused on my own things and in the future, we’ll see what happens.”

What will Madrid discover when they visit the Red Bull Arena on Tuesday?

“A strong team that needs to win and will try to make it very difficult for them. We have momentum at the moment. We will try to dominate the match.”
