Could Chimy Ávila play for Spain?

As confirmed by Diario AS, Osasuna striker Chimy Ávila is on Luis de la Fuente’s shortlist of 69 players for Spain.

Osasuna and Ávila have been one of the revelations of the season, as Los Rojillos are on an impressive Copa del Rey run where they currently find themselves in the semi-finals, with an advantage going into the second leg after their 1-0 first-leg victory over Athletic Club.

They are also currently eighth in La Liga, in no small part to their star man’s seven goals. The side from Pamplona take on Celta Vigo in La Liga on Monday night.

Ávila was born in Rosario, Argentina and has Argentinian nationality, but has also acquired Spanish citizenship, giving him the chance to make his debut with La Roja if selected for the final squad going into the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Similarly, Robin Le Normand is currently in the process of acquiring his passport having played in San Sebastián since he transferred to Real Sociedad’s academy in 2016. If the paperwork is completed on time, he too could appear in De la Fuente’s squad.
